Lupus nephropathy beyond immunosuppression: Searching for nephro and cardioprotection

چکیده

Renal involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) represents one of the most frequent organ manifestations, often leading to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Several therapies have been tested patients with nephritis (LN) prevent further damage. The effectiveness immunosuppressive therapy as a treatment for LN is abundant, supported by multiple clinical trials that shown its efficacy preventing development chronic (CKD). In addition therapy, several traditional and recent aimed at nephroprotection proteinuric are gaining importance setting LN. Thus, should be accompanied nephro- cardioprotective measures control cardiovascular risk factors proteinuria ensure better renal prognosis. Despite this, literature on these specific relatively scarce, recommendations focused blockade renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). This review explores pharmacological options available protection outside usual schemes.

Beyond immunosuppression - challenges in the clinical management of lupus nephritis.

Lupus nephritis remains the most common severe manifestation of SLE with increased risk of death and end-stage renal disease. Although, recent research has focused on the choice of immunosuppressive in its treatment, other factors, including the quality and delivery of healthcare, the management of glucocorticoids and co-morbidity are probably of more importance. There has been significant prog...

Searching for gold beyond mitosis

The genetically tractable filamentous ascomycete fungus Aspergillus nidulans has been successfully exploited to gain major insight into the eukaryotic cell cycle. More recently, its amenability to in vivo multidimensional microscopy has fueled a potentially gilded second age of A. nidulans cell biology studies. This review specifically deals with studies on intracellular membrane traffic in A. ...

Immunosuppression for progressive membranous nephropathy: a UK randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND Membranous nephropathy leads to end-stage renal disease in more than 20% of patients. Although immunosuppressive therapy benefits some patients, trial evidence for the subset of patients with declining renal function is not available. We aimed to assess whether immunosuppression preserves renal function in patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy with declining renal function....
